"Human beings are amazing creatures. We are fine-tuned and biologically wired to learn, grow and develop in diverse ways that lead us to fulfill our individual sense of purpose and potential. We are designed to flourish" - Wendy Ellyatt
How are you feeling today? How is work going? How are all the children that you teach? We would love for everyone to always answer positively to this, but we know that life in the modern world is complicated. For many of us the day may have started badly with all sorts of challenges that may have impacted our wellbeing. And that impacts how we then are with the students and everyone else. Children and young people also come from hugely different environmental backgrounds and whereas they may be ok one day, they may also be struggling the next. These ups and downs are actually what life is all about, so it's important that we understand wellbeing as a dynamic process.
The Flourish Project provides a 'Whole School Approach to Wellbeing' that we hope can help.
We can't work magic, but we have been developing lots of tools and resources that we hope will help to show that schools are living systems, where everybody's wellbeing matters We are now working with our core partners to test out our ideas and create a solid evidence-base. We are also working with school leadership teams to ensure that what we develop has real and lasting benefit, rather than simply being a 'tick-box 'exercise.
